ABOUT THE PLAY: SYNOPSIS

Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous period of India’s independence on the eve of August 15, 1947, “DES” is a satirical comedy that follows the journey of a young couple in Delhi as they navigate their blossoming love amidst the chaos of the nation’s political transformation. The play begins with the introduction of two young individuals from contrasting backgrounds who unexpectedly find themselves drawn to each other. Aryan, a staunch nationalist, firmly believes in the ideals of freedom and independence for India. Priya, on the other hand, comes from a more privileged background and initially remains indifferent to the political turmoil surrounding her. As the impending independence day approaches, Aryan becomes increasingly involved in the freedom movement, participating in protests and rallies across the city. Priya, initially reluctant to engage with politics, gradually begins to understand the gravity of the situation and starts questioning her own beliefs and privileges. Amidst the chaos of political unrest, the couple’s relationship faces its own set of challenges as they grapple with their differing ideologies and societal expectations. However, through their journey, they discover the true meaning of love, empathy, and solidarity.
