Everything About Rangshila – Best Acting Classes & Theatre Group In Mumbai

acting classes & Theatre Group

Rangshila Theatre Group – A Best Acting Drama School/Classes In Mumbai was formed on 18th January 2008 with a vision to promote theatre to every nook and corner and make a stable balance between the art form and commerce.

Most of us tend to believe that art serves no necessary function. It is not utilitarian and cannot be linked to any essential activity. We cannot eat it, drive it, wear or drink it. However, art reminds us that we are not alone in this universe and share a universal human experience. It is the art that makes us feel emotions, process new experiences, find connections and create impact.

Rangshila Theatre Group is acclaimed as one of the best acting schools in Mumbai. With more than 500+ performances over 150 different venues, Rangshila Theatre Group has trained around 2000 theatre enthusiasts. Rangshila Theatre Group has performed in one of the most well-known theatre festivals, including the prestigious Bharat Rang Mahotsav organized by the National School of Drama.

Rangshila is not just a mere training ground for aspiring artists but a setting where artists passionate about acting and direction are provided with a stage to showcase their work. Our priority is to teach students to be better humans, so the entire process of becoming a good actor gets easy and transparent.

About the founder

I, Avneesh Mishra, founder of Rangshila Theatre Group, was born and brought up in the small town of Gorakhpur. My journey with ‘Natak’ started when I was in class 5th, where I would participate in plays, debates, and annual functions. In around 1988, when I was about 14 years old, I started writing a few stories with friends, booking the performance area, and selling tickets. The purpose, which was unclear then, was to make people pay to see the ‘artists’ perform so the art doesn’t go unvalued.

The next step towards the ‘natak’ journey started when I left Gorakhpur and moved to Kanpur as soon as I completed my schooling. The word theatre hasn’t been used purposely because when I started, there used to be only nukkad nataks(street plays) and ekanki(one-act play). The only theatre we knew was the jam-packed cinema halls on a new Amitabh Bachhan film.

Like most of us, I was also pushed into college to pursue a degree in Science. In those days, Kanpur had a large and famous theatre group called Darpan. I remember standing there and seeing the actors perform for the first ten days or so because I couldn’t gather enough courage to ask the director to take me in. After regular visits, the director finally came up to me, asked me who I was, and offered me ‘chai’. I very dearly remember the first sip of the theatre that I wanted to be associated with, and I somewhat believe that this might be one of the reasons why we incorporated tea in the Rangshila logo.

‘Natthu Darji’ of the play ‘Ek tha Gadha urf Alladad khan’ was the first character I played, and I accepted the script with shaky hands and teary eyes. How that happened is a story for some other day. After spending some time in Kanpur, I moved to Bharatendu Natya Academy, Lucknow, in 2001. I accepted my diploma from this institution and then went to Film and Television Institute(FTII) for a Film Orientation course. I moved to Bombay in 2005, where I directed a few plays and grabbed many roles and advertisements for television and films. But as they say, you go where the heart goes. My love and passion for theatre brought me to teach actors for free until I opened my first workshop class.

It was 6th October 2012, when I started taking workshops under the banner ‘Parados to Stage.’ But here, I have a little story to tell. During these years, I went to Theatre Freiburg, Germany, to perform for a play called ‘# Supernova’, written by Raghav Rai and directed by Abhishek Majumdar. It was a collaboration of four countries, and the play taught me that the Indian culture if presented rightly through a form of art, leaves a vast and rich impact on the foreign audience.

Our Motivation

Rangshila Theatre Group was solely opened with the intention of making a balance between art and commerce. The balance should be so stable that one should not look down upon the theatre artists, and the art sustains itself to flourish. The vision was and is still very clear, ‘to make theatre reach to every nook and corner so people can understand the richness of this art form.’
